The Bible
Christadelphians
recognise no authority on spiritual matters other than the Bible.
As the Word of God it is an infallible guide to the mind of God and His
plan and purpose with man and the earth. It
is entirely consistent and without error.
Where the Bible Came From
God
inspired the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16). Holy
men recorded what God revealed to them (2 Peter 1:21).
That is why it is called the Word of God.
How the Bible Developed
The
Bible was written over a period of more than 1,500 years.
It is a library of 66 books written by a range of people inspired to
record God’s word. The earliest
books of the Bible are the books of Moses (Genesis to Deuteronomy) and Job,
while the most recent of the books of the Bible is the book of Revelation,
written at the end of the first century AD.
God
has preserved it down through the ages and although it has been copied and
translated countless times we can confirm that the text available today
accurately represents what God first inspired the various writers to record.
Some
critics have questioned whether the Bible can be trusted.
The criticisms they make, however, will not stand up to scrutiny.
For instance, some critics have suggested that Moses did not write the
first five books of the Bible. There
is no evidence to support this claim, and the Lord Jesus Christ several times
expressed his confidence that Moses was the author of these books (Matthew 8:4;
19:7-8; 22:24).
